About

My name is Chris, the founder of Stag & Hammer, and I am obsessed with quality leather goods.  Something that remains as true today as it was when I was learning to manipulate leather on my bedroom floor at age 15, is the visceral need to “do things right”.  It's a mantra that I try to live by.

Introduction to S&H

Today, everything is cheap.  Relationships are tenuous and digital, and possessions wear thin quickly.  Personal effects used to mean something: Grandpa’s jacket from 1935, Mom’s cast iron cookware, the old belt in the attic covered in battle scars, etc….  They were rich with character, mystery, and history.  They had value....  Today, in a tireless effort to cut costs and save time, we have abandoned quality.  Articles that don't last have no story.  The mystery is gone.

As it turns out, it is the cost and the time put in that affords the value, not the cost and time saved.  With the pleasures of enduring goods largely lost on us, I have charged myself with this humble attempt in restoring them.  Here, the barometer for value is craftsmanship and quality, not savings and efficiency.

Me

I am a sentimental person, and there is no material that engages my sentimental mind like leather.  It promises a lifetime of unfailing service while taking on the patina of your use.  It bears a fantastic story; and I was drawn to its character from a young age.  My first leather creation was a “tool pouch” that I fabricated for a love interest.  The pouch and the relationship were nothing I’m too proud of, but the journey started there.

A decade of working with leather, the desire to operate my own business (or perhaps, not to be told what to do), a hope to generate wealth for my family, and a deep commitment to “do things right”, led me here.  My Father and Mother impressed integrity upon me from a young age.  It's something I hope you find here.

I build every product we sell.  If you order something, I made it.

Quality

Absolutely everything you see in the Stag & Hammer store is built with the highest quality raw materials: top grain leather from the most iconic tanneries in the USA, solid brass hardware, etc.…  Additionally, everything is built by hand, in the USA, by me.  This is why I can offer the S&H lifetime guarantee so confidently.

I hope that this message resonates with you, and you decide to invest in a Stag and Hammer product! Enduring goods are worth their weight in gold.
